According to Pilot Wave Theory, each particle has its own set of properties, but their motion is influenced by a guiding wave. Just as the characters are their own individuals whose thoughts and actions are diverted by the influence of the prophecies/gods.

The house of Laius is represented in the nucleus of the atom. A central focus which is made up of lots of complex parts all repelling and attracting hoping to maintain a balance. On the outside we have the chorus, orbiting around the family as electrons.

And all these elements tied together, directed, guided and influenced by the pilot waves, gods and prophecies.

I aim to push the idea of scientifically predetermined actions, showing the characters to be a small part of a much larger system, with no real control of the outcome.To emphasise the drama of the play it is interpreted in an Operatic style. Also combining moving parts and orbiting circles to emphasise how the character’s fate is being guided and diverted by outside forces.

The audience are directed to there seats via walkways with a gradual incline, allowing the audience to slowly become immersed in the set. These walkways act as performance space for the chorus allowing many actors to fill the space adding a dynamic quality with the varying height. The walkways also curve round outside the circular performance space providing a concealed exit and entrance for the cast. The set also features a spiralling wave structure. The structure represents the gods and reminds the audience of the outside influences on the characters
